DESCRIPTION:

Join us for a hands-on course designed to bring you up to speed in technologies used in molecular pathology. The course will focus on informatics and data processing, NGS, and standard molecular pathology techniques including applications for infectious disease testing. It will also highlight new emerging technologies such as optical genome mapping to reveal genome-wide structural variants.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Describe the mechanism of optical genome mapping to detect genome-wide structural variants and copy number variants, and its important applications in hematological malignancies and solid tumors
  • Describe the role of informatics in processing clinical molecular data
  • Through the use of small group case studies in infectious diseases, solid tumors, hematopathology, and genetics; interpret NGS data to identify genomic alterations

TARGET AUDIENCE

Individuals who have basic knowledge of molecular techniques and seek to understand the practical considerations of molecular pathology technologies, including pathologists, geneticists, laboratory directors, trainees, laboratory technologists, computational biologists, and informaticians.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Pre-Course Preparation:

  • AMP will send a "know before you go" email to all GetAMPed registrants at least one day before the course with course materials to download and information on where to go to check in. Attendees should plan to bring laptops or devices with course materials already uploaded.

On Course Day:

  • Check-in at the GetAMPed! table at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver Hotel to receive your badge.

  • First 1.5 hours will be a brief lecture series which will familiarize you with concepts and recent advances in molecular pathology techniques.

  • Next two hours, attendees will break-out into small groups for interactive discussions around case studies in genetics, hematopathology, infectious diseases, and solid tumors.

Post-course activities

  • Complete the brief course evaluation. We value your input!

  • You will be sent an email outlining how you can claim continuing education credits.

Supported by an independent medical education grant from Illumina, Inc.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

Instructions for how to claim credit will be emailed to participants after the course.
